Dreamcar, the new band featuring AFI's Davey Havok and No Doubt's Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young, has released their debut single. The track is called "Kill for Candy," and you can listen to it now via YouTube.
"Kill for Candy" will appear on Dreamcar's self-titled debut album, which will be released May 12.
Speaking to Rolling Stone of the band's origins, Kanal says, "Tom, Adrian and myself have realized after all these years that we really love playing music together, and we'd been flirting for a long time with the idea of doing another project."
"We finally started writing some music together, but we weren't going to go out and look for somebody to be the singer for this project -- that just didn't make any sense, and I don't think that would have worked," he adds. "It was more about someone coming onto our radar, and that's kind of what happened with Davey."
AFI just released a new album, AFI (The Blood Album), earlier this year, but No Doubt hasn't put out anything since 2012's Push and Shove. When asked what impact Dreamcar has on No Doubt's future, Kanal says that "we would never, ever characterize [Dreamcar] as anything to do with No Doubt."
"Right now [frontwoman] Gwen [Stefani is] focusing on her solo stuff, and we're focusing on Dreamcar," he explains. "No Doubt will always be there; we've experienced things together that no one else will ever experience with us. It's a family that will always be there, and the music we've created will always be there. We're just going through a period where everybody's kind of doing their thing."
Dreamcar will play a number of shows on the West Coast this spring, including at Coachella. They'll also appear on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! April 18.
