Get ready to break out all your stolen dance moves -- Milky Chance is launching their first full-scale North American headlining tour tonight in Dallas, Texas. The German duo, made up of vocalist/guitarist Clemens Rehbein and producer/DJ Phillipp Dausch, broke through last year with their hit "Stolen Dance." As the band has performed the song more and more, they have developed different variations of "Stolen Dance" for the stage."
"When you play a song so many times you just try new things out and just play it a little bit different," Rehbein tells ABC Radio. "I mean the chorus is the same, but sometimes I sing the verses a little bit different, change the melody."
"A little bit different" not only describes the live version of "Stolen Dance," but also the entirety of Milky Chance's live show.
"It's more energized than on the album, it's going more forward and pushing more," Rehbein says of his band live. "But also there's some mellow mood moments."
As they gear up to play bigger and bigger venues in the U.S., Milky Chance will have more opportunity to develop a bigger stage show. While elaborate production isn't the band's biggest concern, they do look forward to adding to the live experience of their shows.
"We will always focus on music," says Rehbein. "But it's very interesting to connect music and art, like melding it together."
Focusing on music also means writing new material, which Milky Chance has certainly done. Rehbein anticipates that the tour's set list will contain quite a few new songs.
"[The set list will be] maybe half and half, like old songs, new songs," he says. "So it's going to be a long concert."
Milky Chance's North American headlining tour will conclude May 23 in Vancouver, followed by an appearance at the Sasquatch! Festival in Quincy, Washington.
