As predicted, Alabama Shakes' Sound & Color has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The band's sophomore album sold 96,000 equivalent album units for the week ending April 26, 91,000 of which were pure album sales.
Sound & Color follows Alabama Shakes' 2012 debut, Boys & Girls, which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Boys & Girls features the hit single "Hold On," which was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
Released on ATO Records, Sound & Color gives the label its first number-one album since Radiohead's In Rainbows topped the Billboard 200 in January 2008. Additionally, Sound & Color is the first independently-distributed album to debut at number one since country artist Jason Aldean's Old Boots, New Dirt did it in October 2014.
Making today an even bigger day for Alabama Shakes, the band has also released the video for the Sound & Color title track. You can watch the sci-fi inspired clip now on YouTube.
