Alt-J, Royal Blood & More Up for Prestigious Ivor Novello Songwriting Awards

Images Courtesy of Gabriel Green; WBR PressAlt-J and Royal Blood have been shortlisted for one of the U.K.'s most prestigious musical honors: the Ivor Novello Awards, which salute the best in British and Irish songwriting each year.

The BBC reports Alt-J's "Every Other Freckle" is nominated for Best Contemporary Song, while Royal Blood's self-titled debut is up for Best Album. Other nominees include Hozier's "Take Me to Church" for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, and George Ezra's "Budapest" for Most Played Song of the Past Year.

The Ivor Novello Awards, named after a popular Welsh composer, singer and actor who was famous in the first part of the 20th century, are voted on by songwriters. The 2015 awards will be handed out May 21 in London.
