Arctic Monkeys don’t plan on waiting five years for next album, says drummer: “We like being in the studio”

Johnny Louis/Getty ImagesArctic Monkeys released their new album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino last May, nearly five years after the British rockers dropped its predecessor, AM. So -- will we have to wait another half-decade before the next record?

"I don't think so," drummer Matt Helders tells Australia's Music Feeds.

Up until Tranquility Base, Arctic Monkeys hadn't waited more than two years between albums. So it makes sense that after AM, which was the band's most successful record in the U.S., they'd need a break.

"I think that break was based on various circumstances and that was sort of what we needed at the time," Helders says. "But it's not a pattern we’re going to get used to as a band."

"We like being in the studio," he adds. "We're keen on making albums."

Arctic Monkeys are currently in New Zealand touring behind Tranquility Base. They'll launch a tour of Mexico and South America later in March.
