Beastie Boys’ “Licensed to Ill” Certified Diamond for 10 Million Sales

Image Courtesy of Def JamBeastie Boys' seminal debut album, Licensed to Ill, has been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America, meaning the album has sold 10 million copies. According to the RIAA's database, Licensed to Ill reached the milestone on March 4.

Licensed to Ill was originally released in 1986. The album featured the hits "No Sleep till Brooklyn" and, of course, "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)."

Beastie Boys released seven more albums after Licensed to Ill. The band's last record was 2011's Hot Sauce Committee Part II. A year later, Adam "MCA" Yauch died from cancer at age 47. Following Yauch's death, surviving members Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and Michael "Mike D" Diamond announced that they would not continue to make music as the Beastie Boys.
