Billie Joe Armstrong Reflects on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction; Discusses Potential New Music

Credit: Felisha TolentinoNearly two weeks after Green Day was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is still feeling the effects of that night.

"It's sort of like a natural LSD," Armstrong tells Rolling Stone. "The whole thing was just surreal, but instead of LSD it was reality. We had a great time."

"It was really freaky," he adds. "It was kind of like being at your own wedding and your own funeral."

Before they were inducted, Green Day played an intimate show at the House of Blues in Cleveland. At the beginning of the show, Green Day took the stage with founding drummer John Kiffmeyer, who left the band in 1990, as Sweet Children, their original name.

"Not only did we play a Sweet Children set with John there, there were certain songs that we haven't touched in a long time that we added to our set, like 'Private Ale' and 'Stuart and the Ave,'" Armstrong says.

In addition to resurrecting old songs, Armstrong has been writing new ones. He says that he's written four or five, but we shouldn't expect a new Green Day album right away.

"We're going to take our time," Armstrong says. "We're not going to try and pull off some, like, victory lap over this because I definitely want the music to come from a real place and be inspired, not just because we got honored or anything like that, but because we're honoring music. We want to work on them, and we want to make a great album."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will air on HBO May 30.
