ABC/Randy HolmesBishop Briggs released her debut album Church of Scars in 2018, and she now tells Entertainment Tonight that she's "pretty far" into her sophomore effort.
"I am going to be taking the couple of months I have off to really dive in and go to my bones, scraping and getting past the surface," Briggs explains. "I'm going to try to go to the core of my being and write from there."
As for what the new material will sound like, Briggs wants to continue in the direction of her new single "Baby," which she describes as a "shade of pink" compared to the "heaviness" of Church of Scars.
"Going forward, I want to kind of go in that direction and not hide behind metaphors," Bishop says. "I still think I will always have darkness in me. Even though it's a love song, it's kind of dark, but I definitely opened a whole door for me of writing."
As she prepares to write new music, Briggs will be following a very important story: Lady Gaga's Oscar campaign for her role in A Star Is Born.
"I am very excited. Whenever there are awards happening, it's as if they're happening to me. I can't wait," Bishop says. "I had a silent drive home because [after seeing A Star Is Born], I was in such shock and awe, and it was so emotional. I just thought about it right now and I'm going to cry again."
If Bishop's looking for potential album titles, may we suggest A Star Is Briggs?
