Blink-182’s Travis Barker Says Tom DeLonge Should “Man Up and Quit the Band”

Estevan Oriol/DGCThe Blink-182 saga continues, as drummer Travis Barker has advised Tom DeLonge that he should publicly announce that he is no longer a member of the band.

"I think the right thing for him to do would just man up and quit the band instead of telling people he didn’t quit and just be real with the fans," Barker tells Alternative Nation.

Earlier this year, DeLonge got into a very public fight with Barker and bassist Mark Hoppus about whether he was still a part of Blink-182. Barker and Hoppus reportedly issued a statement saying that DeLonge had quit the band, which DeLonge then denied. What followed was a series of back-and-forths in which each side reiterated their positions.

Elsewhere in the interview, Barker also says that DeLonge isn't actually a fan of punk music.

"I love playing, listening, and everything about punk rock. It changed my life," Barker says. "I think for Tom, he doesn't like punk music and it was a phase for him."

As for the future of Blink-182, the band will be performing their next gig with Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio in place of DeLonge. Barker says that rehearsals with Skiba have been productive.

"It's just fresh blood and having someone that's motivated and stoked to be there makes a world of difference," he says of Skiba. "In general, Skiba has a really charming voice and it couldn't be a better fit."

Meanwhile, DeLonge just announced the release of his debut solo album, entitled To the Stars...Demos, Odds and Ends, which will be released on April 21.
