Brendon Urie wants to do a “metal project” and create a Panic! at the Disco musical

ABC/Fred LeeBrendon Urie might be moving the panic from the disco to the mosh pit. In an interview with Rock Sound, the Panic! at the Disco frontman says he's interested in doing a "metal project."

"I actually just played something for my band mates recently -- we have an old song called "The Calendar" and I made a metal version of it from years back," Urie says. "It's like 90 seconds long and is really fun. Who knows, I might even put that out on SoundCloud on a whim sometime soon!"

In addition to adding head-banging to the Panic! aesthetic, Urie is also hoping to apply more of his musical theater experience to the band. After making his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots last year, Urie tells Rock Sound he'd love to create a Panic! at the Disco musical.

"Maybe we could tell the story of the origins of the band, going right the way back to the beginning...I would love to," he says. "That would be great."

"After talking to various people within the theatre industry it seems as though it would be very feasible for us to put together, and most importantly it would be a lot of fun," Urie continues. "Sure, it would be a great challenge, but ultimately the reward would be so huge and we’d get to tell the story exactly the way that we wanted to. I feel like Panic! should have a show like that, that is so theatrical and outlandish."

While we wait for Panic! at the Metal Show: The Musical, you can catch Urie and company touring behind their new album, Pray for the Wicked, starting in January.
