Bush’s Gavin Rossdale hopes new album ‘The Kingdom’ will make his kids say, “My dad’s on fire”

Scott Dudelson/Getty ImagesWhen Bush drops their new album The Kingdom this Friday, frontman Gavin Rossdale won't be paying too much attention to the critical response it receives. However, he'll be greatly anticipating what his four kids think of the record.

"I don't want them to play my records to their friends and say, 'What happened to my dad?'" Rossdale tells People. "I want them to be like, 'My dad's on fire.'"

"They inspire me because I want them to like what I do," he adds. "They inspire me to be better."

Rossdale shares three sons -- Apollo, Kingston and Zuma -- with ex-wife Gwen Stefani. He also has a 31-year-old daughter, Daisy, from another relationship.

Along with trying to make his children proud, Rossdale hopes that The Kingdom, which features the singles "Flowers on a Grave" and "Bullet Holes," will feel relevant in today's world.

"It really feels like this record is a statement about how we can be better people," Rossdale explains. "If you listen to the song 'Bullet Holes,' it talks about race wars. "'The Kingdom,' which is the title track, could be the [soundtrack] to the peaceful protests. I can't wait for people to hear it."

Bush will celebrate the release of The Kingdom with a livestream concert, airing Saturday, July 18, at 9 p.m. ET via BushOfficial.com.
