BMGRed Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Guns N' Roses guitar icon Slash are both featured on a new solo album from ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder, American Rock 'n' Roll.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Felder reveals that Smith and Slash are both featured on the album's title track, which celebrates the history of rock music from the Woodstock era to the present day.
"Slash lives really close to me," Felder says. "He came over, brought his guitar, plugged into one of my amps and we traded off on some solos. He actually plays on the part of the song that mentions Guns N' Roses by name."
The song actually begins with Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood on drums. Smith then hops on the kit for the second half.
"We wanted an old school Mick Fleetwood-style rock and roll pocket in the early verses," says Felder. "And when Chad comes in, it becomes a more more modern, hard-rocking Chili Peppers kind of feel."
You can listen to the track now via RollingStone.com.
The album also features contributions from ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, who both play with Smith in Chickenfoot, as well as the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir.
American Rock 'n' Roll arrives April 5.
