Creed frontman Scott Stapp has posted a nearly 16-minute long video on his band's Facebook page in which he says that the IRS has frozen his funds due to a "clerical error" and has left him penniless. He also says that he is currently living in a Holiday Inn after spending weeks living out of his truck.
Stapp says that everything began to fall apart after he conducted a "personal audit" of his finances.
"During the course of that audit a lot of things were uncovered," he says. "A lot of money was stolen from me or royalties not paid."
Stapp goes on the say that the people who he believes have stolen that money have threatened to reveal "any impropriety I’ve done in the past these individuals can get their hands on to humiliate and embarrass me and try to ruin my credibility."
He then says the IRS froze his funds and that his all the funds from his bank were stolen from someone who changed his online banking passwords.
"I had no money, not even for gas or food," Stapp says. "I went two days without eating because I had no money and ended up in an emergency room."
Throughout the video, Stapp insists that he is completely sober, which contradicts the reported claims made by his estranged wife, Jaclyn. According to the Miami Herald, Jaclyn filed for divorce from her husband, claiming he was abusing amphetamines and crystal meth.
In the video, posted Wednesday, Stapp asks for a lawyer to help him. He also promises a follow-up video with updates. The currently posted video is entitled "Scott Stapp of Creed: Public Statement #1."
