Damon Albarn Confirms Gorillaz Return to the Studio

Parlophone RecordsEarlier this year, Damon Albarn's Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett posted new photos of the group's animated members, seemingly confirming the cartoon band's return. Hewlett reportedly added "Yes. Gorillaz Returns."  Now Albarn himself has confirmed the news, revealing he plans to record a new Gorillaz album later this year.

"I'm starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record," Albarn tells Australian news program ABC 7.30.

Formed by Albarn and Hewlett in 1998, Gorillaz has released four albums, including 2005's Demon Days, which featured the hit single "Feel Good Inc." The band's last album, The Fall, debuted in late 2010 as a free download to members of the band's fan club before being officially released in 2011.

In the meantime, Albarn is currently on a world tour with his other band, Blur. That tour will make stops in Los Angeles and New York City in October.
