Damon Albarn, New Order, Rick Rubin and More Contributing to Drum Machine Documentary

Image Courtesy of Linda BrownleeIn honor of the Roland TR-808 drum machine, artists like Damon Albarn, New Order and producer Rick Rubin have contributed commentary to 808, a documentary exploring the influential electronic musical instrument.

The film, which was directed by Alexander Dunn, takes an in-depth look at how the 808 has changed the music industry, from its introduction in 1980 to today.

"808 tells the remarkable tale of how one small machine changed the course of music history, spawning myriad styles across boundaries of time and genre, its defining sound as resonant today as ever before," reads a press release.

The film, as well as a companion soundtrack, will be released in 2015.

Phil Collins, pop hitmatker Pharrell, drummer Questlove and 808 pioneer Afrika Bambaataa have also contributed to the film.
