Dave Grohl Sings with High School Classmate Who Beat Him in Youth Battle of the Bands

Credit: Hayley MaddenLong before Dave Grohl was the frontman for Foo Fighters, and before he was the drummer in Nirvana, he was just a kid in Virginia with a band.  While in high school, Grohl entered a youth battle of the bands contest, but lost out to a kid in his class named Chet Lott.  Lott just happened to attend Foo Fighters' show in Memphis this week, and Grohl, widely considered the "nicest guy in rock," decided to bury the hatchet with his high school nemesis.

During the Foos' cover of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure," Grohl invited Lott to sing along with the band.  When Lott got on stage, he told Grohl, "We may have won the battle, but you won the war."  You can watch fan-shot footage of the Lott Fighters now on YouTube.

Since beating Grohl in high school, Lott, who is the son of former Senate Majority leader Trent Lott, has become a musician in his own right.  He has used his music to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Foo Fighters are currently in the home stretch of their North American Sonic Highways tour, which concludes on October 18 in Castaic, California.
