"Growing up in Springfield, Virginia in the 70's and 80's, my local independent record stores were magical, mysterious places that I spent all of my spare time (and money) in, finding what was to eventually become the soundtrack of my life," Grohl writes in a statement.  "Every weekend I couldn't wait to take my hard earned, lawn mowing cash down for an afternoon full of discovery."

Grohl is also featured in a video in which he talks about the first record he ever bought -- a compilation album called K-Tel's Blockbuster 20 Original Hits by the Original Stars featuring Alice Cooper and the Edgar Winter Group's classic instrumental, "Frankenstein."

In addition to serving as Record Store Day Ambassador, Grohl will be releasing a new Foo Fighters EP on RSD called Songs from the Laundry Room, featuring previously unreleased songs, demos and covers.

Previous Record Store Day Ambassadors have been Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne and Jack White.

The official Record Store Day release list will be announced on March 10.  RSD 2015 will be held on April 18.
