Jeffrey R. Staab/CBSNoted Chicago Cubs fan Eddie Vedder traveled to Pittsburgh to watch his favorite team take on the Pirates in Wednesday night's National League wild-card game, and he didn't leave disappointed. Vedder's Cubbies beat the Pirates 4-0 to advance to the next round of the MLB playoffs. After the game, the Pearl Jam frontman joined the team for a champagne celebration in the locker room.
The Cubs will take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the next playoff round. When asked if he'll be traveling with the Cubs when they play St. Louis in Game 1 on Friday, Vedder said, "I have kids and a job. I'll be in Chicago!"
Just like everyone else who roots for the team, Vedder is a long-suffering Cubs fan -- the franchise hasn't won a World Series since 1908. This season marks the first time since 2008 that the Cubs have even made the playoffs.
Earlier this year, Vedder led Wrigley Field fans in a rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during a regular season game between the Cubs and the New York Mets. Vedder has made numerous appearances at Wrigley to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" since 1998, when he was one of the first to sing it after the passing of legendary Cubs announcer Harry Caray, who would always lead the crowd in singing the song during the seventh-inning stretch.
