Fall Out Boy Is Taking Their “Art Piece” Overseas Starting Tonight

Credit: Pamela LittkyFall Out Boy kicks off their overseas tour tonight in Dublin, Ireland, and bass player Pete Wentz says this time around, they're actually going to give their fans overseas the same concert experience that their fans in the U.S. got to have earlier this year with their Boys of Zummer tour.

"I think we’re going to try our best to make it a continuation of the theme we had going for this tour," Wentz tells ABC Radio. "I think it’s important when you create an art piece to kind of take it out into the world as a whole...sometimes I think we just end up only doing the big production for the U.S.  And I think that we’re really gonna try to do the production everywhere in the world."

But the European tour will be missing one major part of the Boys of Zummer tour: opening act Wiz Khalifa.  Pete says having the rapper on the same bill with them was one of the highlights of the entire tour.

"Just getting to hang out with Wiz every night and going out on stage with him, him coming out on stage with us, it was just awesome," Wentz tells ABC Radio. "It really made it feel like it was a collaborative summer, which was awesome."

Instead, Fall Out Boy's shows in Ireland and the U.K. will be opened by British rapper, singer and songwriter Professor Green, as well as Matt & Kim and Charley Marley, who's a new signing to Wentz's DCD2 label.

Whether touring overseas or at home, though, Wentz says being on the road is quite a different experience than when they first started more than ten years ago.  "Man, touring has changed a lot," he notes. "Now, people have smartphones and you're able to connect with people a lot easier."  That's definitely welcome, considering both Wentz and singer Patrick Stump have young children.

"Also," Pete adds, "We're in a bus instead of a tour van!"

After Fall Out Boy's U.K. and Ireland dates are wrapped up, the band will tour Europe through the end of October.  So far, they just have one additional show scheduled for December in the U.S., but that may change.
