Drummer Joey Castillo has temporarily left Scott Weiland's band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. The former Queens of the Stone Age drummer was absent from the band's May 19 show in Lawrence, Kansas, which fueled rumors Castillo has left the Wildabouts for good. However, in a Facebook post, Weiland clarifies that Castillo will return to the tour after a week of recording with his other band, hardcore punk group BL'AST.
"Just to clear up the confusion - Joey has NOT left the band," writes Weiland. "He is recording for a week with BL'AST and will meet back up with us on the 27th."
In the meantime, drummer Mike Avaneim, who manned the kit on the Wildabouts' debut album, Blaster, will step in for Castillo. "I've known about this for months, hence lining up our friend Mike Avaneim to fill in," Weiland adds.
Weiland's next show is scheduled for tonight, May 21, in Jefferson, Louisiana, followed by an appearance at the Rocklahoma festival May 23. The band doesn't have a show scheduled for May 27, so Castillo's first concert back appears to be May 30 when the Wildabouts play the BottleRock Festival in Napa, California.
