Fort Minor/WBR Press; Travis ShinnTwo bands coming back from hiatus with new material have made big debuts on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs Chart. "Welcome" by Fort Minor -- Linkin Park guitarist and vocalist Mike Shinoda's hip-hop side project -- and "The Vengeful One" by Disturbed have debuted at number 16 and number 17 on the chart, respectively.
"Welcome" is Fort Minor's first new song in 10 years. Shinoda only released one album as Fort Minor, 2005's The Rising Tied, before putting the project on hiatus in 2006. While Shinoda says that "Welcome" is "not part of a new album," he tells Billboard that the "door is open" for potentially more Fort Minor material.
"Finally getting over that hump of putting out one [song] allows me to have a little less pressure of what I put out to the fans because I want the bar of quality to stay high, but at the same time there is a lot of pressure on the first one back," Shinoda says. "So now that that's out of the way, we'll see what happens with something else."
Meanwhile, Disturbed's "The Vengeful One" is the band's first new song since going on hiatus in 2011. The track, which also starts at number 11 on Mainstream Rock Songs, is the lead single from Immortalized, Disturbed's sixth album. Immortalized will be released on August 21.
