GM Standing by Kid Rock Despite Call to Cut Ties with Him

Clay Patrick McBrideA major car company will continue its relationship with Kid Rock despite his past use of the Confederate flag during concerts.

A Detroit activist group has asked General Motors to rescind its sponsorship of Kid Rock's summer tour if Rock displays the Confederate flag during any of his shows.

However, GM says it will continue to sponsor the tour, as Rock has only displayed the American flag during the trek.

Kid Rock, who's from the Detroit area, has not only displayed the Confederate flag on stage during shows in the past, he is unapologetic about his love for the flag.

Rev. Charles Williams II, president of the Michigan Chapter of the National Action Network and pastor of King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit, tells the Detroit Free Press the civil rights group will be "furthering" its call in asking GM to remove its support of the musician.

GM released the following statement to the newspaper: "We have been in touch with Reverend Williams, and representatives from Chevrolet will be meeting with him later this week to better understand his concerns. We need to let some open and constructive dialogue occur as a first step, and we'll go from there."
