Green Day returned to San Francisco punk club 924 Gilman Street Sunday night for a surprise concert. The show was held to benefit local publishing houses AK Press and 1984 Printing, both of which recently suffered warehouse fires, according to PunkNews.org.
While they played the staunchly independent venue many times early in their career, Green Day was banned from playing 924 Gilman Street after they signed a major label record deal. Sunday's show was Green Day's first show back since being banned.
The show at the 700-capacity Gilman Street venue was even smaller than Green Day's 2015 return show last month at the intimate-for-them House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio. The band then played a much bigger stage shortly after that gig stage they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the ceremony, Green Day performed alongside fellow inductee Ringo Starr, which you'll be able to watch when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony airs on HBO May 30.
