Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Plays Surprise Acoustic Gig in NYC

Credit: Marina Chavez Billie Joe Armstrong staged a surprise acoustic show at the New York City club Bowery Electric Wednesday night. The Green Day frontman performed alongside singer Norah Jones, with whom Armstrong recorded 2013's Foreverly, a tribute to The Everly Brothers' 1958 album Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. You can watch fan-shot footage of Armstrong and Jones singing "Roving Gambler" now on YouTube.

Though they could easily fill arenas, Green Day -- and now, Armstrong -- is taking a more intimate approach to their live shows this year. Last month, Green Day played a surprise gig at the San Fransisco punk club 924 Gilman Street. They also performed at the House of Blues in Cleveland prior to their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.

Green Day will likely be playing to a much bigger audience when they headline the inaugural NiFi Fest this August in Kentucky.
