Happy 40th Birthday, Jack White!

White rose to prominence with The White Stripes, which he began in 1997 with his fake sister/real ex-wife Meg White. The White Stripes released six albums, including 2003's Elephant, which featured the massive single "Seven Nation Army." The band's last record was 2007's Icky Thump, and, in 2011, they officially announced their break-up.

Outside of The White Stripes, White played in The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. Both projects released two albums, though a third Dead Weather record, called Dodge & Burn, will be released this September.

In 2012, White released his first solo album, Blunderbuss. His sophomore solo effort, Lazaretto, was released in 2014 and was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at this year's Grammys. Lazaretto's title track won the award for Best Rock Performance and was nominated for Best Rock Song.

White also has become known as a prominent booster of vinyl records through his label, Third Man Records. Lazaretto was the best-selling vinyl record of 2014, moving more than 75,000 copies. That figure made Lazaretto the best-selling vinyl record since Pearl Jam's 1994 album, Vitalogy.

As for what White plans to do to celebrate his 40th birthday, we do know that he won't be touring. After a long touring campaign in support of Lazaretto, White is currently taking a break from the road.
