Iggy Pop Writes Song for Upcoming Matthew McConaughey Film, “Gold”

ABC/Randy HolmesIggy Pop is contributing a new, original song to the upcoming film Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey. The Godfather of Punk co-wrote the track, also titled "Gold," along with Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton, plus the film's director Stephen Gaghan and composer Daniel Pemberton.

"This beautiful and unpredictable film spoke to me of violence, desire, destiny, lust and the inescapable twists of fate," says Pop in a statement. "The actors and the story spun a web of excitement that left me spent and breathless, so I tried to perform the vocal with that feeling in mind...I found myself at a new level of communication, standing there in the studio with Steve Gaghan and Danger Mouse, singing 'Gold' -- a song for our times."

In Gold, McConaughey plays a man looking for gold in the jungles of Indonesia. The film, which also stars Edgar Ramirez and Bryce Dallas Howard, opens in limited release in December before hitting theaters nationwide January 27.

Earlier this year, Pop released his album Post Pop Depression, which he recorded with Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme.
