Steven Lippman/Men's HealthImagine Dragons' frontman Dan Reynolds is 2019 fitness goals.
In a new story with Men's Health, the singer reveals how he achieved a Thor-like physique. He calls his new abs and biceps “a statement.”
"It embraces the spirit of rock 'n' roll," he says. "I grew up loving Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, Freddie [Mercury] -- showmen."
Working with trainer Brad Feinberg while on tour with Imagine Dragons last year, Reynolds worked out for one to three hours seven days a week, doing a combination of cardio, weights and high-volume upper-body drills. His meal plan included oatmeal, berries, bananas, salads, sweet potatoes, brown rice, chicken, lamb, and lots of olive oil.
Reynolds says the change of diet and fitness routine has helped him manage his rare autoimmune disease called ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and ulcerative colitis, as well as improve his mental health.
"Pain medication ruins your vocal cords, and immunosuppressants made me get sinus infections all the time," he says. "I really had no other option than to completely clean up my diet and exercise every day."
Now, he says, "I'm stronger than I've ever been."
