One of this summer's biggest rock tours is Incubus and Deftones' co-headlining trek. The two bands are quite familiar with each other, as they toured together often earlier in their careers.
"They're similar, I think, in the sincerity of the approach to making music," Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd tells Billboard of Deftones. "We both come from humble backgrounds, humble beginnings of getting in the van and playing everything from someone's backyard and listening rooms to the bar and the theater and the bigger theater and the bigger theater yet and then the arena, that kind of thing."
Incubus is touring in support of their new EP, Trust Fall (Side A), their first new music in four years. The band is also planning a follow-up Side B EP.
"We're still writing music for it now," says Boyd. "There's definitely a renewed adventurous spirit in the songwriting right now, which has been really fun."
Incubus' tour with Deftones will conclude August 30 in San Diego. Boyd and company will then play a few more shows on their own before wrapping everything up with a two-night stand in Las Vegas September 5 and 6.
