Interpol “like[s] the idea” of playing 15th anniversary “Antics” shows

MatadorIn 2017, Interpol played a number of special shows to mark the 15th anniversary of their 2002 debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights, during which they played the record in its entirety. With the band's 2004 sophomore effort Antics, which spawned the singles "Evil" and "Slow Hands," turning 15 this year, could the band be planning a similar celebration for that album?

"I like the idea of it," frontman Paul Banks tells NME.

Banks admits he felt "a moment of reticence" when planning the Turn on the Bright Lights shows, but he felt better knowing that, in addition to looking backwards, Interpol was also working on new material, which would become the 2018 album Marauder.

"I needed that in order to be able to look back and celebrate an older record," he explains.

Banks adds that the positive reaction to the Turn on the Bright Lights performances has opened his mind to the possibility of future anniversary shows.

"A lot of fans have told us that it was fun as s***," Banks says. "To see a band go back and play a whole record from top to bottom, I like it."

"I don't know if there's any thought about doing that for Antics, but I'm not categorically opposed," he adds. "I find those kind of shows to just be fun celebrations."

Meanwhile, Interpol will release a new EP called A Fine Mess on May 17.
