“Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” and “Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways” Nominated for Emmys

Images Courtesy of HBO; Roswell FilmsThe members of Nirvana will be well represented at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards. Both Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways received multiple Emmy nominations, which were announced Thursday.

Montage of Heck, the first fully authorized documentary about Kurt Cobain, earned seven Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special. Director Brett Morgen is up for Outstanding Writing and Directing for Nonfiction Programming, and the film is also nominated in several technical categories, including Cinematography, Picture Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.

Sonic Highways, an eight-part series that followed Foo Fighters as they recorded their new album of the same name, earned four Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Informational Series or Special. Dave Grohl himself was nominated for Directing for Nonfiction Programming. Like Montage of Heck, Sonic Highways is also up for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.

The Emmy Awards, hosted by Andy Samberg, will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 20. Fox will air the ceremony live.
