“Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” to Receive Theatrical Release

Image Courtesy of The End of Music, LLC/HBOKurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, the first fully authorized documentary about the late Nirvana frontman, will receive a theatrical release prior to its premiere on HBO.  According to a tweet from director Brett Morgen, the film will begin a theatrical run in New York City, Los Angeles and Seattle on April 24.  Montage of Heck will also be screened in theaters internationally beginning on April 9.

"Within 90 days, the whole world will have access to the film," Morgen told Billboard at this week's South by Southwest festival.

To make Montage of Heck, Morgen was granted unprecedented access to Cobain's personal archives. Cobain's daughter, Frances Bean, is an executive producer on the film.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will also be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.  Following the screening, Morgen and Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, will participate in a discussion about the film.  Montage of Heck will premiere on HBO on May 4.
