GeffenKurt Cobain's green cardigan, which he wore during Nirvana's MTV Unplugged taping, is going to auction. The sweater will be sold via a Julien's Live auction block and is expected to fetch up to $60,000.
"The Manhattan brand sweater is a blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra with five-button closure (one button absent), with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discoloration near left pocket and discoloration on right pocket, size medium," reads the cardigan's official description. It will also be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by a "Cobain family friend," who donated the cardigan to the auction.
Nirvana's MTV Unplugged appearance was filmed in November of 1993 and first aired the next month. A recording of the performance was released in November 1994, seventh months after Cobain's suicide.
In addition to the cardigan, the auction will offer an actual lock of Cobain's hair, which was originally given to doll maker and comic artist Dame Darcy by Courtney Love. The lock is 10 inches in length and is expected to sell for up to $10,000.
Bidding for both the cardigan and the lock of air will open on November 7 at JuliensLive.com.
