Legacy RecordingsThe soundtrack to Jaco, a film produced by Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo about legendary jazz bass player Jaco Pastorius, will include of version of Pastorious' song "Come On Come Over" done by Mass Mental, a collective featuring Trujillo and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, as well as Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins. You can listen to Mass Mental's cover of "Come On Come Over," which, naturally, features a plethora of bass grooves, now at Billboard.com.
"The music is really experimental and super funky, and every time we do a show for some weird reason it turns into a party and celebrity musicians show up," Trujillo tells Billboard of his work with Mass Mental. "We did our own particular version of 'Come On Come Over,' and I'm so proud of it. It can never be as great as the original, but ours is different and we just set out to do the best we could."
Produced by Trujillo and Pastorius' eldest son, John Pastorius IV, the Jaco soundtrack also features contributions from Joni Mitchell, Mott the Hoople singer Ian Hunter and rapper/Corey Taylor-collaborator Tech N9ne.
Both the Jaco soundtrack and the film itself will be released on November 27 as a part of Record Store Day Black Friday.
