Marilyn Manson’s “The Pale Emperor” Was Released as a PlayStation Disc

Image Courtesy of Loma VistaWhen Marilyn Manson released his latest album, The Pale Emperor, earlier the year, the record was distributed in the usual physical and digital formats. However, Marilyn Manson being Marilyn Manson, the shock rocker wanted to shake things up a bit by also releasing The Pale Emperor as a PlayStation disc.

No, there isn't an actual video game on the PlayStation version of The Pale Emperor. Instead, Manson was after the aesthetic of those old PS discs, which were manufactured with a pure black ink finish -- something that certainly suits Manson's sound and style.

"When you open the CD it's pitch black," art director Hassan Rahim tells KillScreenDaily.com. "But we also added a thermal texture on top -- after it gets hot during playback, the disc comes out all white."

That transition between white in black is particularly fitting for Manson's most recent album, given that it's called The Pale Emperor.

Meanwhile, Manson will be touring with The Smashing Pumpkins this summer on The End Times tour, which certainly sounds like the name of a video game. The End Times begin July 7 in Concord, California.
