Credit: Tim CadienteIn a recent interview with Phoenix New Times, Maynard James Keenan made a number of remarks that appeared to insult fans of Tool, including that that the band's humor is lost on fans because "they're so focused on the other bulls***," and that those types of Tool fans are "insufferable." Now, he's taken to Twitter to clarify his comments.
"Our core fanbase aren't fanatics," Keenan writes. "They're music lovers & artists & good people. Its [sic] the fanatics that are insufferable."
Tool fans have a reputation of being too serious and intense about the band.
Also in the interview, Keenan said that his Tool band mates had to "con" him into playing the band's lone 2015 show, taking place this weekend at the Monster Mash Music Festival in Arizona. Keenan did not make any further comments about this remark.
Tool hasn't released a new album since 2006's 10,000 Days. Keenan's new album with his other band Puscifer, called Money Shot, will be released on October 30.
