Meg Myers Says Debut Album, “Sorry,” May Have “More Hopeful Songs”

Credit: Darren AnkenmanMeg Myers will release her debut full-length album, Sorry, on September 18. The lead singles from Sorry, "Desire" and the title track, both demonstrate Myers' personal, intimate songwriting style, but the album might have a few unexpected twists.

"I like to show a bunch of different sides," Myers tells ABC Radio. "I don't know, I have so many, I can't just write one style or whatever. So I think there's a couple different styles, or just songs on there that I think probably will probably be like, 'Ah! Interesting!'"

Of course if you liked the raw lyricism of her previously released songs, you shouldn't fret -- Myers assures that "everything's me still" on Sorry.

"There's maybe a little more hopeful songs on there, maybe some really dark songs on there," Myers says.

While Sorry may contain a few surprises, the songs all share one common trait: Myers feels personally connected to ever one.

"I'm sure that I'll always evolve and write about different things, but I always have to be connected to them. I'm really emotional," she says. "I feel like I've never been really good at covering songs, because it's like, 'I didn't write this.'"

One song that Myers would feel comfortable covering is Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." Myers counts Trent Reznor as a big influence, especially on the songs "Desire" and "Sorry," even if Nine Inch Nails isn't really in her listening rotation anymore.

"I listen to classical music or classic rock. I don't really listen to stuff like [Nine Inch Nails] anymore," Myers tells ABC Radio. "I think because my songs are so dark, I have to have balance or something, something to pull me out of it."

"So I pretty much stick to Enya now," she laughs.
