In a video introducing Metallica's revamped website, drummer Lars Ulrich walks into the recording studio to find Hetfield laying down a new riff. You can watch the clip by signing up for Metallica's free-to-join Fifth Member fan club.
Along with the new website, Metallica also launched a live vinyl series featuring recordings from the band's 2014 By Request tour. The series includes recordings from Montreal, Bogota, Colombia, Helsinki, Finland and Istanbul, Turkey. Each show will be released as a four-LP set and will be limited to 500 copies.
Metallica's last album was 2008's Death Magnetic.
