Metallica will perform the national anthem on June 6 at the 2015 X Games in Austin. Frontman James Hetfield and guitarist Kirk Hammett will perform their instrumental version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the Moto X Speed & Style competition.
Later that day, Hetfield and Hammett will reconvene with the rest of Metallica for a full set at the X Games. "We're very stoked to have our music take humans to another level," Hetfield told skateboarding icon Tony Hawk of Metallica's set.
Hetfield and Hammett previously broke out their heavy, Jimi Hendrix-esque take on the national anthem for the San Francisco Giants' third annual "Metallica Day." You can watch that performance at the San Francisco Giants' Facebook page.
The 2015 X Games will be held in Austin, Texas June 4-7. Coverage of the X Games will air on ESPN.
