Mike Shinoda on possibility of finding new singer for Linkin Park: “That’s not my goal right now”

ABC/Randy HolmesMike Shinoda has shared his thoughts on the idea of Linkin Park continuing with a new singer in place of the late Chester Bennington.

"That's not my goal right now," Shinoda tells Germany's Rock Antenne radio station. However, he did seem open to the idea of finding a new vocalist, provided that it happen "naturally."

"If we find somebody that is a great person that we think is a good personality fit and a good stylistic fit, then I could see trying to do some stuff with somebody," Shinoda explains. "Not for the sake of replacing...I wouldn't wanna ever feel like we were replacing Chester," he adds.

"I know the other guys [in Linkin Park], they love to get onstage, they love to be in the studio, and so to not do that would be -- I don't know -- almost unhealthy," he continues. "If doing that means that we need to have some other people in the mix in order to do it and do it well, then we would do that."

Shinoda adds that Linkin Park also has to take the fans into consideration when making any decisions regarding the future. He describes fan interest in the band continuing as the "driving force to figure it out."

However, he reiterates that any steps regarding a new singer would have to happen organically. For example, he assures that he's not, "running out and putting up 'vocalist wanted' posters."

"I think that's wholly inappropriate and probably a terrible idea," Shinoda admits.

Linkin Park last played together during the star-studded Bennington memorial concert in October 2017. Since then, Shinoda has been touring solo behind his new album, Post Traumatic.
