Mumford & Sons have revealed the details of their third album. Entitled Wilder Mind, the 12-track album will be released May 4, though you can order it now via MumfordandSons.com.
Wilder Mind is the followup to Mumford & Sons' Grammy-winning Album of the Year, Babel. In a statement, frontman Marcus Mumford describes Wilder Mind as "a development, not a departure."
"Towards the end of the Babel tour, we'd always play new songs during soundchecks, and none of them featured the banjo, or a kick-drum," says Mumford. "And demoing with [The National guitarist] Aaron [Dessner] meant that, when we took a break, we knew it wasn't going to involve acoustic instruments. We didn't say: 'No acoustic instruments.' But I think all of us had this desire to shake it up. The songwriting hasn't changed drastically; it was led more by a desire to not do the same thing again. Plus, we fell back in love with drums! It's as simple as that."
In support of Wilder Mind, Mumford & Sons have announced the details of their 2015 Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers. Each Stopover is a two-day event featuring a headlining set from Mumford & Sons, plus a lineup of artists curated by the band. Depending on the location, bands featured on the Stopover tour include Foo Fighters, Alabama Shakes, The Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket and more.
Tickets to the 2015 Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers will go on sale March 6 at 10 a.m. local time via GentlemenoftheRoad.com.
