If you thought Mumford & Sons' shift from banjos to electric guitars for their new album Wilder Mind was a drastic change, wait until you hear about frontman Marcus Mumford's new project. Mumford tells NME that he's working with hip-hop producer 88-Keys and learning to "chop-up beats."
"I went to that Kanye [West] gig in London recently, and I grew up listening to Jurassic 5 and Nas," he says. "I've been getting into that again recently. I've been hanging out with an amazing guy called 88-Keys to learn how to chop-up beats. That's really fun for me."
Mumford recently told Billboard that he thought West is "the only rock star left." 88-Keys worked with West and Jay Z on their collaborative album Watch the Throne.
"I don't really care about how we’re seen right now, because I think the story of this band will be a long one," Mumford tells NME. "People are always going to say stuff in the moment, but I hope that the arc of the band will be interesting."
Wilder Mind will be released on May 4.
