Muse has never been known for holding back, but drummer Dominic Howard thinks that for their next album, the band really needs to "lose our minds."
"I think it's time to kind of lose our minds a little bit more in the studio and delve into some new areas of music that we're kind of not that used to or comfortable with," Howard tells the South China Morning Post. "I think we should definitely do that and kinda go for it. Yeah, we've got small ideas about how we think we can evolve. That's the key thing: evolving."
Muse released their latest album, Drones, earlier this year, which saw Muse focus on the political message of their lyrics while taking a relatively simpler approach to the music. As for the follow-up, Howard says there have been discussions about a new album, although nothing is set in stone.
"I just know we need to do something really, really different to anything we’ve done before," he says.
Muse is currently on tour in Asia, but they will be playing four shows in the U.S. in December, during which the band will be playing "in the round" for the first time.
