New Tool album release month revealed?

Credit: Tim CadienteDoes the new Tool album actually have a release date? According to drummer Danny Carey, we'll be able to hear the much-anticipated record in just a few months.

Speaking to a fan at the NAMM music gear trade conference, Carey said that the album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days, should be out by "mid-April."

"That's the plan, anyway," he added.

Video of the interaction is streaming now on YouTube.

Now, this being Tool, all album discussion should be taken with the biggest grain of salt you can imagine. However, there is reason to be optimistic. For one, Carey said "mid-April," so hopefully he wasn't making a April Fools' joke.

As for actual concrete info, frontman Maynard James Keenan declared during an awards show last summer that new music would arrive in 2019. And just last month, he revealed that his final vocals were tracked "months ago." He also added that, if all instrumentals were tracked, Tool would then begin the "long process of mixing."

Tool also has a few U.S. tour dates lined up for this spring, including headlining sets at the Welcome to Rockville, Epicenter, and Chicago Open Air festivals. They'll then launch a European tour in June.
