Image Courtesy of Fueled by Ramen Last week, founding Panic! at the Disco drummer Spencer Smith revealed he'd officially be leaving the band. Since Smith announced his departure, both Panic's most recent album, 2013's Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! and their debut, 2005's A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, have experienced a spike in album sales, enough so that they've reentered the Billboard 200 at 198 and 200, respectively, for the week ending in April 5.
Too Weird received a 25-percent boost in pure album sales, while sales of Fever increased by 87 percent. Fever, which featured Panic's breakthrough single, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," originally debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200. Too Weird peaked at number two, tying the band's best chart performance, set by 2008's Pretty. Odd.
Smith had been on hiatus from Panic! since 2013, when he revealed he had been battling an addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs. He posted a letter on the band's website April 2, announcing his departure.
"After 10 years of being a part of this unbelievable journey it saddens me to say that I will be leaving Panic," Smith wrote. "This was not an easy decision to come to, but after a lot of thinking it became clear that this is what's right for me and the band."
Panic! will continue with original frontman Brendon Urie and bassist Dallon Weekes, who officially joined the band in 2010.
