Billboard will present its first-ever Trailblazer award to Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams at the publication's upcoming Women in Music Awards gala, scheduled for December 12 in New York City.
"I can remember a time when I would've been made fun of for doing things differently. Now I'm getting an award for it? This is too much. I’m so excited!" says Williams in a statement. "There are women in this industry who totally bulldozed walls down for the likes of me to come along and do what I believe in. I want to be that for even one girl in the future. I can't wait for the event next month and to high-five some of my sisters in music."
Paramore's latest full-length album, 2013's self-titled release, was their first record to hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200. Paramore also reached the top spot on the Alternative Albums and the Top Rock Albums charts.
That success flowed into 2014 with their single "Ain't It Fun," which gave Paramore their first number-one appearance on the Hot Rock Songs chart. Over the summer, they co-headlined a massive tour with Fall Out Boy.
Williams joins pop stars Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande plus Frozen star Idina Menzel as honorees at the event. Grande will receive the Rising Star award, Menzel gets the Breakthrough Artist of the Year trophy, and Swift is Billboard's Woman of the Year, for a second time.
