Passion Pit Frontman Michael Angelakos Comes Out as Gay

Credit: Hassan RahimPassion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos has come out as gay. In an interview with author and screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis on Ellis' podcast Monday, Angelakos discusses his sexuality and his divorce from stylist Kristy Mucci.

"I just wanted so badly to be straight, because I love her so much," Angelakos says on the podcast. "I think that was one of the most painful things about when we decided to separate."

He adds that Mucci encouraged him to come out earlier this year.

"When I decided to really deal with it head on -- which was, I don't know, in June -- she was the one that kind of spearheaded it in a way," Angelakos explains. "She said, 'Whatever happens right now is whatever -- you need to figure out what's going on with your sexuality; you can't hate yourself anymore.'"

Since the episode was released Monday, Angelakos has taken to Twitter to thank those who've supported him.

"I've received so many kind and supportive messages today," he writes. "Thank you for reaching out and being so kind to me."
