Phoenix “regret[s]” past collaboration with R. Kelly: “We are deeply horrified”

ABC/Randy HolmesPhoenix has shared a statement regarding their past collaborations with controversial R&B artist R. Kelly, who's alleged history of sexual abuse is the subject of the Lifetime docu-series Surviving R. Kelly.

"We are deeply horrified by the stories of abuse surrounding R. Kelly," Phoenix tweeted Thursday. "We regret that we were not both more informed and more discerning when we worked with him previously. We fully support all victims of sexual abuse, and it's our hope that there will be a path to justice."

In 2013, Phoenix and Kelly performed together at Coachella. They also teamed up for a remix of Phoenix's song "Trying to Be Cool."

Since Surviving R. Kelly premiered, officials in both Atlanta and Chicago, where Kelly has homes, have begun investigating the allegations against him. In the 24 hours since Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx asked R. Kelly victims to step forward, her office says at least two new female accusers have done so.

Kelly has denied all claims of abuse and hasn't been criminally charged in connection with the current allegations.
