Rap-rock was never the most critically acclaimed genre, but one band that has been relatively unscathed in that regard is Rage Against the Machine, while one of the most reviled rap-rock bands is Limp Bizkit. You may be surprised to learn Rage bassist Tim Commerford says he feels his band is responsible for Fred Dust and company's success.
"I do apologize for Limp Bizkit," Commerford tells Rolling Stone. "I really do. I feel really bad that we inspired such bulls***."
"They're gone, though," he continues. "That's the beautiful thing. There's only one left, and that's Rage, and as far as I'm concerned, we're the only one that matters."
Limp Bizkit does still tour, however -- the band will be playing over 15 shows in Russia this October and November.
Commerford's history with Limp Bizkit dates back to the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff" won Best Rock Video over Rage Against the Machine's "Sleep Now in the Fire." In protest of Limp Bizkit's victory, Commerford crashed the stage, climbed the tree-shaped backdrop and began to sway in an effort to bring the structure down. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and spent one night in jail.
"I wish I would've swung on that thing and brought it to the ground and just destroyed it," Commerford now says. "If I could do it all over again, I would've ripped that thing to the ground and shredded it."
