Credit: Steve KerosRed Hot Chili Peppers will be performing at this year's Stand Up for Heroes, held tonight at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The annual event raises money for injured veterans and their families, and, as drummer Chad Smith tells ABC Radio, the band is always ready for "any time we can be involved in something that helps, and immediately helps."
Along with the Chili Peppers, Stand Up for Heroes will feature performances from comedians John Oliver, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, Trevor Noah, Hasan Minhaj and John Mulaney, and the band is ready to take part in any comedy bits, as well.
"We're pretty funny and we're funny looking," says Smith. "We're happy to participate in any way that we're asked, musically or otherwise."
The Stand Up for Heroes show will actually be the last Chili Peppers U.S. gig for some time: the band has three South American dates lined up for next year, but besides that, they don't have any touring plans on the books.
"We're more than happy to come to New York and do this and play for these families -- they really need the help," says Smith. "[We're] looking forward to it."
In other Chili Peppers happenings this week, the next episode of the Chad Smith-hosted PBS program Landmarks Live in Concert, featuring a performance by Foo Fighters at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, airs this Friday, November 10.
