Rivers Cuomo Reveals Inspiration Behind Weezer’s “Do You Wanna Get High?”

Credit: Sean MurphyThe lyrics on Weezer's new song "Do You Wanna Get High?" may seem pretty self-explanatory, but Rivers Cuomo wants to give you the full story. On the lyric annotation website Genius, Cuomo explains what inspired Weezer's latest single.

"This is about me and my darling girlfriend in 2000/2001 -- the same girl that inspired 'O Girlfriend' from The Green Album," he writes. "Those were some incredible nights. I remember hanging out with [Limp Bizkit frontman] Fred Durst around that time too."

"Do You Wanna Get High?" begins with the line "Crush up the blue and inhale through your nose," which Cuomo describes as "one way to take pills. I don't know if it works any better but it makes you feel cool, like you're taking a more serious drug."

"I try to avoid pills now at all costs," he adds. "Even when I had knee surgery in 2013, I refused anything but Advil. I love Advil now, though, I'll tell you."

"Do You Wanna Get High?" is the second new Weezer song released in as many weeks, following "Thank God for Girls." Currently, it's unclear whether the songs are standalone singles or whether they will be a part of Weezer's follow-up album to 2014's Everything Will Be Alright in the End.
